How to start a YouTube channel from scratch 2020
Do you want to start a YouTube channel from scratch but feel daunted by the process of getting it all set up? Well, is that’s the case, just spend a few minutes watching this video, and I can guarantee you that in another few minutes, you’ll have your channel all set up and ready to go!
It’s worth knowing that as long as you have a Google account, you can watch and like videos and subscribe to channels. But if you want to upload your own videos, and if you want to have a public presence on YouTube, then you need to set up your own channel.
There’s two different ways to do this and I’m going to talk you through both of them.
Create a personal channel
The first way is to create a personal channel. If it’s only ever going to be you working on your YouTube channel, and if you’re just uploading videos for fun, then this is probably going to be the most appropriate way for you.
It’s super easy to set up this way. Just sign into YouTube, and try and perform any action that requires you to have a channel, such as posting a video or posting a comment on somebody else’s video. And if you don’t have a channel, it will then prompt you to create your own.
So go ahead and do this and just check all of the details are correct, give your channel a name, and you are pretty much done.
Create a brand account
The second option is creating a channel with a business name or a brand name.
If you want to have multiple managers and users, people helping you out with your channel, then this will be the most appropriate way for you to set up your channel.
Setting up this brand account means that multiple users can access the channel while still being logged into Google as themselves. They won’t need a separate username or password, you can just simply grant them access to your channel. So it’s a much easier way of setting up your channel if you have a team, or if you plan to get freelancers or an agency involved in helping you with all or parts of the YouTube process in the future.
Now, to set up your channel this way, again, sign into YouTube, go to your channel list and select Create New Channel. Just fill out the details to create your new channel, give it a name and verify your account. Once you click done, your brand account has been created!
Get your channel looking great
Whichever way you set up your channel, there’s a few things that you want to do to get your channel looking great.
First, your banner image which appears at the top of your channel page. I would recommend using a free tool like Canva to create an image which represents your brand, and your business, and the kind of content that you’re going to be creating on your channel.
It’s really important to make sure it’s the right size, the YouTube recommended dimensions for your channel banner (2048 pixels wide and 1152 pixels tall).
Once you’ve created it, your banner is really easy to upload. Just hover over the little camera icon and choose to upload it from your computer. Make sure you’re happy with your profile picture too. YouTube may have pulled in a profile picture from your Google account. It’s fine to use that if it reflects you and your channel but again, you can simply change it by hovering over the little camera icon.
There’s loads more ways to optimise your channel and give it the best chance possible to be found by as many different people as possible on YouTube right here.
All you need to do now is create some fantastic videos. If you’ve enjoyed this video, do subscribe to the channel and then you can be the first to hear about new videos as they’re uploaded!
