My top 7 podcasts for entrepreneurs and small businesses

My top 7 podcasts for entrepreneurs and small businesses

I’ve become a real fan of podcasts. They’re a great way to learn and be productive on the go, in the car, in the gym (you won’t catch me there) or on a walk in the fresh air (much more likely to bump into me in a field).

Soulful PR Podcast – Janet Murray

Award-winning Guardian journalist Janet Murray’s focus is on teaching people how to get PR for their small business, whether they want to get coverage in newspapers, magazines and on radio and TV.

What I love about the Soulful PR podcast though is that the focus on traditional PR is combined with discussions on how to incorporate blogging, social media, webinars and email marketing into a wider strategy.

Janet also mixes up interview-based episodes with entrepreneurs with episodes of her diving deep into a particular topic such as why you should put your pricing on your website and six types of blog post you should be creating regularly.

Janet’s podcast features some big guests so great if you’re wanting to get to know some of the influencers within the PR and marketing space.

My favourite episodes include: Episode 233: How to monetize your brand with Chris Ducker and Episode 137: How to get known with Mark Schaefer.

Marketing and Finance Podcast – Roger Edwards

This podcast offers ideas and inspiration on marketing your business and, whilst some episodes are more finance-related, other episodes focus more generically on marketing so remain relevant for non-finance related businesses.

I find Roger’s voice and manner very soothing and easy to listen to and love hearing his interviews with marketers, entrepreneurs and journalists.

Content marketing and social media are key focuses for Roger but perhaps his most prominent message is that of keeping marketing SIMPLE.

My favourite episodes include Episode 157: Louise Harnby on self-publishing, marketing strategies and why branding matters and Episode 150: Pete Matthew on building client trust through consistent audio and video content. I may also have snuck on there myself!

Listen to Roger when he came on my podcast here.

You Are The Media Podcast – Mark Masters

This podcast hosted by Mark Masters helps business owners and marketers build their audience to create profitable action via an owned media approach.

Mark always injects his own personality into the podcast episodes and offers his own slant on things which is invaluable.

I was lucky enough to feature on show 11 talking about getting into a rhythm with blogging and I confirm that Mark is a perfect gentleman!

Favourite episodes include: Show 10: Lead generation principles with Sonja Jefferson and Show 3: How to make micro stories work for you with Trevor Young.

Youpreneur FM – Chris Ducker

Another of my regular listens is this long-standing podcast hosted by Chris Ducker always leaves me feeling energized.

Through a mix of guest interviews and solo shows, Chris brings his own take on what it means to have a personal brand entrepreneur in the 21st Century. He always makes a great connection with guests, some really big names too, so making for a lively and deep interviews packed full of value.

My favourite episodes include: Episode 257, Your brand is you reputation, start taking it seriously and Episode 125, 5 ways you can make money online quicker than you probably think!

Content 10x – Amy Woods

I love the focus of Amy’s business, Content 10x, which is all about helping people get the most out of the content they create by repurposing it to reach as wide an audience as possible.

This is of course the focus of the Content 10x podcast too. Aimed at bloggers, podcasters and video content creators Amy’s episodes give invaluable tips, tricks and advice on how to make your content go further and make sure your message is heard.

Another great mix of guest interviews and solo shows.

My favourite episodes include: Episode 17: Content stacking with Col Gray and Episode 11: How to repurpose Facebook Live Videos with Ian Anderson Gray.

Listen to Amy when she came on my podcast to talk about content repurposing here.

The CMA Podcast Show with Chris Marr

I love the current format of Chris’s show, short episodes which encourage listeners to take action and do something each day to grow their business.

Chris really knows his stuff when it comes to connecting with and growing our audience through content so perfect if you’re currently creating or thinking about getting started with a blog, podcast or video.

My favourite episodes include: I don’t have time for content marketing and Becoming oversubscribed.

The Andrew and Pete Show

Just like everything that this crazy duo do, it’s different… and fun!

This season based podcast combines the fun and games (think snog, marry, avoid in relation to marketing tools) of a radio show with interviewing some of the biggest names in online marketing.

You’ll laugh while you learn (how often does that happen?!) and get to hear some of the biggest names in some very ‘different’ scenarios!

My favourite episodes include: Episode 10: OMG we killed Kim Garst and Episode 9: Here comes my pony.

My podcast ‘list’ is being added to all the time so no doubt there’ll be a follow up to this blog at some point! If you think I need to listen to your podcast I’m always open to suggestions so do get in touch. Obviously I’d love for you to give the Hot Content Marketing Podcast a whirl if you haven’t already,  we’re getting some great guests with some fantastic invites. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done, loving it!
